Jim Chelossi approached Slingshot to develop an effective golf ball cleaning product. The client wanted to develop a superior solution to the problem of dirty golf balls on the golf course; a problem he felt was not adequately addressed by existing products. The goal was to provide the golfer with a compact device that could thoroughly clean the golf ball with less mess than using a towel. Since clean golf balls fly better, this product would be viewed as a necessity.
Since a number of competing products exist on the market, one primary challenge was to differentiate this product in a way that emphasizes its effectiveness. Other challenges included sealing, developing a compact design, making the product easy to use, and ensuring low production cost.
